Following a number of acquisitions, building products manufacturer BMI Group was left with several small local offices and contact centres. In order to consolidate those spaces, a new central location was chosen in Milton Keynes that could accommodate scattered teams and provide the impetus to create a single unified team. The aim was to bring the whole space to life, creating a buzz, encouraging collaboration and interaction across the newly-merged teams.
Our client wanted to demonstrate their commitment to the workforce by bringing the whole space up to the same quality levels as other offices in the group.
David Bullied, Client Project Consultant, BMI Group
A new fully-glazed entrance lobby was introduced to the front of the building, which, with the open reception space and bespoke reception desk instilled the sense of quality the client sought for the visiting clients and partners.
A central collaboration space and teapoint helped to draw the teams into shared, communal spaces reinforcing the single office concept. In addition to the variety of collaborative settings, movable write-on panels were introduced to the space, hung from a ceiling track, these allowed certain areas to be subdivided when necessary while still retaining functionality.
Bespoke combination glazed and fabric screens were installed between working areas and the main circulation route to control noise across the office, whilst still encouraging the collaborative environment, and to ensure some of the privacy the teams felt they had lost by moving from their cellular offices.
The scheme overall works well for BMI in this organisational change and has given them the workspace they desired for their business to evolve moving forward.
